AFECT uniquely provides professional standard practical part-time 16mm training, with subsequent opportunity for film-making, for those who have neither the time nor money to attend full-time school, yet seek prolonged and serious involvement.
Our name stands for Advancement of Film Education Charitable Trust and we came into existence as a result of the failure of the then Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) to provide proper 16mm film-making education in its Adult Education band. A charitable educational trust was set up in 1985, and the 'Practical, Part-Time, 16mm Film-Making Course' (the original name of the charity) was begun in 1989 at the Working Men's College in Camden, London. This was in some ways appropriate since Frederick Denison Maurice and William Morris of the Christian Socialist Movement first set up the college in the 19th century. |
